This error simply occurs when Amazon finds out that the product id (UPC, EAN, ISBN, ASIN, or JAN) you are using to list the product is conflicting with an existing ASIN already on Amazon.
This error is a matching error which is contradicting existing ASIN information such as Title, Brand, color, or size.
What Does the Error 8541 Read?
Amazon Error Code 8541 read as follows,
“The provided SKU [SKU] conflicts with the Amazon catalog. The standard product ID values provided for this SKU correspond to the ASIN [ASIN]; however, some information conflicts with the Amazon catalog. The conflicting attribute values are brand (Merchant: [MERCHANT_VALUE] / Amazon: [AMAZON_VALUE]). If your product is this ASIN, modify these attributes to reflect Amazon catalog values. If your product is different from this ASIN, check if the standard product ID values are correct.”
This error pops up while you are adding a product on Amazon. This error states that the product id that you are using is contradicting existing ASIN information such as Title, Brand Name, Color, Size, etc.
Why did you receive this error 8541?
It is important to understand why did you receive an Amazon error 8541 and we have listed some possible reasons below why you might have received this error,
- You must have used a duplicate UPC and tried changing the title of the product
- You must have used a duplicate UPC and tried changing the brand name of the product
- You must have used a duplicate UPC and tried changing the manufacturer of the product
- You must have used a duplicate UPC and tried changing the color of the product
- You must have used a duplicate UPC and tried changing the size of the product
If you have used a duplicate UPC that matches the existing ASIN that is already on the Amazon catalog then this error will pop up.
Sometimes a seller does this intentionally, as the old variation is not going to be replenished anytime soon therefore seller thinks just to change the color to the new variation and use the same ASIN to secure old reviews on the ASIN.

Sometimes the seller has used a new UPC but still receives error 8541. This is because that UPC might be fake or recycled therefore we recommend all sellers to buy UPCs only from GS1.
