What is Amazon Error Code 8572

Have you received Amazon error code 8572 while adding a product and you do not know what it is?

In this blog post, we will answer the following from our experience,

  • What does error 8572 say?
  • Why did you receive this error 8572?
  • How to resolve this error 8572?

Short Answer:

This error simply occurs when Amazon does not trust the product id (UPC, EAN, ISBN, ASIN, or JAN) you are using to list the product, therefore they need proof from the owner of the product id to verify the ownership.

What Does the Error 8572 Read?

Amazon Error Code 8572 read as follows,

“You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. Using incorrect UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes are prohibited, and it can result in your ASIN creation privileges being suspended or permanently removed.”

This error pops up while you are adding a product on Amazon. This error states that the product id that you are using is not recognized by Amazon as correct which means it can be fake, recycled, etc.

Why did you receive this error 8572?

Amazon prohibits the use of incorrect product ids. This is why I recommend every seller on Amazon to buy UPC only from GS1. GS1 is a company that provides product ids that are accepted all over the globe.

If you have bought UPC from anywhere else such as eBay or any other marketplace then you might have received a used or recycled code which is why you have received this error.

How to resolve this error 8572?

If you have bought the code from GS1, then you will have to submit proof to Amazon to verify the ownership of UPC.

Contact Amazon Support Team to Resolve the Error:

You need to contact Amazon seller support then Amazon will ask you to provide the following,

“A copy of a GS1 registered stating that the UPC you are using to list this product is valid and owned by you OR that you are allowed to use your own barcode to list the branded item.”

“Valid proof of Affiliation between the Brand & Barcode Owner. We would require proof stating that the Brand “XXXXXX” is affiliated with the UPC/EAN Owner “YYYYYYY”.

The proof of affiliation can be in the form of:

Copyright

Trademark

Legal Agreement

Letter of Affiliation”

“Official websites which show the affiliation between the Brand & the owner of the barcode”

After receiving the requirements from Amazon you need to send the following,

  • Screenshot of the Error
  • UPC images on the product you are listing
  • Copy of the certificate from GS1, when you purchased the UPC
  • If you are the brand owner and your brand has a trademark then attach a copy of your trademark document

After sending all this, Error 8572 will be resolved and then you can list the product with the same UPC.

Buy and Use new UPC from GS1:

If you need to save time and avoid the hassle of contacting Amazon support then buy another UPC from GS1 and try to list the product with a new UPC.

GTIN Exemption:

You can apply for GTIN exemption for your product category and if Amazon allows GTIN exemption for your product category then you can list the product without the need for UPC.
